Iran, Switzerland eye CIS market



In a meeting with his counterpart from Switzerland’s Canton Ticino, Iran Chamber of Commerce Vice President Pedram Soltani urged facilitation  of banking relations and utilizing Eurasia capacity for expanding trade between the two countries.

Pedram Soltani who was hosting Marco Passalia and a delegation of Swiss businessmen mentioned the visit by the Iranian delegation to Switzerland last October saying another delegation would visit the country in the coming months.

Pointing to the banking, tourism, technology, pharmaceuticals, services and other fields of cooperation, Soltani predicted a good future for the economic ties between the two countries as a result of the efforts by Iran-Switzerland Chamber of Commerce.

Soltani further urged the two countries to pave the way for banking relations as one of the main prerequisites for expansion of economic ties.

Describing Iran-Switzerland’s cooperation as unsatisfactory for the time being, he stressed that Switzerland could boost cooperation with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) through its collaboration with Iran since “Tehran is going to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) soon”.

“Iranian and Swiss companies could launch joint activities in different fields, with exports to the CIS as part of their cooperation,” he added.

Marco Passalia emphasized that his country’s current focus for expansion of economic relations is on a few countries including Iran, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

Ticino Chamber of Commerce vice president mentioned the visit by the Swiss delegation to Tehran as a way of better understanding the situation in Iran saying that Ticino delegation is composed of businessmen from energy, steel and banking sectors who are looking for cooperatoin with Iranian counterparts. 

He further welcomed Soltani’s suggestions on trade with Eurasia, and expressed his country’s interest in trade with the region.
